Role Overview

Designation Head, Quality Assurance (QA)
Department Quality
Reports To Plant Head / Chief Operating Officer
Location Talod, Sabarkantha District, Gujarat
Experience 10 to 20 Years
Qualification B.E./B.Tech (Mechanical / Metallurgical / Industrial); ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor certification preferred
CTC Commensurate with experience
Employment Type Full-Time, On-Site

Purpose of the Role

To build, own, and continuously improve the Quality Management System governing every stage of manufacturing at Graspin Industries Limited, from vendor qualification through client certification, ensuring quality is engineered into the process. This is a foundational hire: designing the QMS from the ground up for a greenfield plant with in-house galvanizing, and building it to the standard a company on an IPO track will eventually need to defend to auditors, exchanges, and institutional investors.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Management System (QMS) Ownership

  • Own and maintain ISO 9001:2015 certification, covering documentation architecture, internal audit calendar, management review process, and surveillance audit readiness
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, Work Instructions, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) across every manufacturing stage, in coordination with Production and QC
  • Govern QMS document control, including revision management, controlled distribution, and obsolescence

Process Quality & Capability

  • Define process control parameters and acceptance criteria for cutting, punching, drilling, welding, and galvanizing stages
  • Run process capability studies to ensure processes are inherently capable of holding tolerance, so quality is built in rather than inspected in, per IS 802 and applicable IS/EN standards
  • Own the CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) system end to end

Vendor & Supplier Quality

  • Qualify and audit raw material suppliers, including steel mills, galvanizing input suppliers and fastener vendors, against IS 2062, EN 10056, and galvanizing input specifications
  • Maintain and periodically requalify the Approved Vendor List (AVL)
  • Convert recurring supplier defects, flagged by QC, into formal supplier corrective action and, where needed, requalification decisions

Client Quality Requirements & QAP Management

  • Develop and secure client approval for Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs) and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) per project, since POWERGRID, STU, and private IPP requirements each differ
  • Own the contract-level relationship with client quality and engineering departments
  • Track evolving standards and client-specific technical specifications, including EU-facing requirements as export volumes grow

Internal Audit & Management Review

  • Plan and execute the internal audit calendar across departments
  • Prepare and present Management Review inputs, covering quality KPIs, audit findings, CAPA status and customer complaint trends, to plant and senior leadership
  • Own the relationship with the ISO certifying body through surveillance and recertification audits

Root-Cause Analysis & Systemic Corrective Action

  • Lead formal root-cause investigations (5-Why, fishbone, or equivalent) for significant non-conformances escalated from QC
  • Convert recurring defect patterns into systemic fixes such as process redesign, training, or specification changes, rather than repeated one-off rework

Training & Quality Culture

  • Design and deliver quality-awareness and standards training across the plant
  • Build quality expectations into onboarding for every new hire, shop floor through corporate

Quality Governance & Reporting

  • Own the quality KPI dashboard, covering defect rates, NCR trends, customer complaints and QAP turnaround, reported to leadership and, over time, feeding into IPO-readiness governance and ESG scorecard reporting

Candidate Profile

Must Have

  • 10 to 20 years in quality management within structural steel fabrication, heavy engineering, or power-sector EPC/manufacturing, including at least 5 years leading a QMS function
  • Demonstrated experience building or substantially maturing an ISO 9001:2015 system, greenfield or early-stage plant experience strongly preferred
  • Deep knowledge of IS 802, IS 2062, EN 10056, and hot-dip galvanizing standards (IS 2629 / IS 4759) as applied to transmission tower manufacturing
  • Experience running vendor qualification and audit programs for structural steel and galvanizing input suppliers
  • Comfortable presenting quality performance and systemic risk directly to senior leadership, without softening bad news to make a status update easier to deliver

Good to Have

  • ISO 9001:2015 Lead Auditor certification
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent process-improvement credential
  • Exposure to BRSR / ESG-adjacent reporting, particularly customer-fairness and product-safety metrics

Behavioural Competencies

No silos, by necessity

This role only works if it has standing access across Procurement, Production, Sales, and HR. Territorial thinking defeats the function.

Bad news, delivered early

Systemic quality risk gets surfaced to leadership before it becomes a client-facing failure, not after.

Evidence over opinion

Audits, CAPA, and vendor decisions are built on data and root-cause discipline, not the most senior voice in the room.

Resourceful, not over-engineered

Builds a QMS appropriate to where the company actually is today, scaling deliberately rather than importing a heavier system than the plant can sustain.

What We Offer

  • Ownership of the Quality Management System for a plant built from the ground up
  • Direct influence over how the company presents quality governance to auditors, exchanges, and institutional investors as it approaches IPO
  • A clear reporting line into plant leadership, with genuine authority over vendor qualification and process standards
  • Competitive compensation with performance-linked growth
  • A team already partly built: this role leads the Head QC function and its inspection team from day one

Reporting Structure

  • Plant Head / Chief Operating Officer
  • Head, Quality Assurance (QA) This Role
  • Head, Quality Control (QC)
  • Incoming Material Inspection
  • In-Process Inspection
  • Galvanizing QC
  • Final Inspection & TPIA Coordination
  • QC Lab & Calibration
  • Vendor Quality & Approved Vendor List
  • QMS Documentation & Internal Audit
  • Training & Quality Culture
